Castles

Castle Stalker

Visible from the A828 south of Duror, Castle Stalker is a picturesque privately owned tower house situated on a tiny island on Loch Linnhe.

Dunstaffnage Castle

Dating from the 13th Century, Dunstaffnage Castle stands on a rocky promontory, surrounded by sea on 3 sides, 3 miles outside Oban.

Kilchurn Castle

The ruins of 15th Century Kilchurn Castle stand at the northeastern end of Loch Awe. The base of the powerful Campbells of Glenorchy.

Eilean Donan Castle

This iconic, much photographed castle stands strategically on its own small island at the meeting point of 3 sea lochs - Loch Duich, Loch Long & Loch Alsh. Since the first structure on the site was established in the 13th Century to protect against Viking incursions, the castle has changed many times, suffering damage in 1719 during the Jacobite uprisings.

Urquhart Castle

On the A82 road on the shores of Loch Ness, the ruins of Urquhart Castle occupy an amazing location in the heart of the Great Glen. This was once one of Scotland's largest castles, control of which was fought over many times between the Scots and the English during the Wars of Independence.

Inveraray Castle

The seat of the Dukes of Argyll, chiefs of Clan Campbell, since the 18th Century. Situated on the shores of Loch Fyne, this is one of Scotland's finest stately homes.  Beautiful grounds and gardens.
